BLANCHE makes upholstered furniture in its own factory and has done since 2007. The collection is shown in 41 showrooms across 12 countries, and it is designed to be lived with rather than admired — deep seats, real frames, fabrics chosen to survive a household.

Materials

What is inside it

The question the showroom is asked every week, answered part by part — with the mills and the makers named rather than described.

Fabrics
The factory upholsters in cloth and in natural leather. The showrooms carry Belgian, Italian and Polish collections across a wide range of colours and patterns, from the classical to the very contemporary. Many of the cloths run to natural linen, cotton and wool.

Wood
The frames are built on class E1 birch plywood — the same board used by many factories in Western Europe. Depending on the model there is solid beech, oak, pine or ash in the frame, and decorative parts can be cut from over thirty exotic species, rosewood, zebrano, merbau and tobacco among them. The timber is glued with Jowat of Germany; the foam is bonded to the frame with Saba of the Netherlands. Both are stated safe for health and for the environment.
Softness, for your comfort
Everything that makes a sofa or an armchair soft is polyurethane foam. Some models add goose down and feather of the first processing, and furniture filled that way is recognisable at once by its natural plumpness. Scatter cushions are filled with hollowfibre — a web of hollow, spiralled fibres whose air pockets give a cushion both spring and softness.

Quality control follows ISO 9001 requirements at every stage of production.

Every piece is checked against ISO 9001 requirements at each stage of production, not once at the end of it.

Furniture is drawn for the evening rather than the photograph: deep seats, backs that hold a spine, and detailing that survives being looked at from every side of a room.
Research
At least 30% of the profit goes back into research and new models every month. The factory states this as the reason it is still here after eighteen years.
